WASHINGTON (July 2, 2020) – Robert "Glenn" Harris was a member of the Howard University Baseball Team (1970-74) after graduating from Anacostia High School in D.C., serving as the squad's four-year starting catcher.
The three-year captain earned All-MEAC honors twice (1973 & 74) while guiding the club to its first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) title under Chuck Hinton (1972).
During his collegiate career, he played in the Capitol Collegiate Baseball League (CCBL), a Fall league sanctioned by the NCAA. In his senior campaign, Harris was named to the All-Metropolitan College Baseball First Team (1974).
After graduating from The Mecca with a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education and urban education, he signed a free agent contact with a Triple-A independent team (1977). Harris was inducted to the HU Athletics Hall of Fame after his stellar collegiate career.
"Howard gave me a scholarship to play baseball," said Harris. "I enjoyed Howard University, in fact, I loved it. I am a lucky man."
In the mid-1970s, Harris served as a public address announcer for HU Athletics before hosting Howard WHUR-FM's Let's Talk Sports. From there, he hosted several shows throughout the DMV area before retiring in 2015.
In his 40-year broadcasting career, he was the play-by-play voice of Howard football and basketball for 17 years while hosting popular shows, including NewsChannel 8's Sports Talk for 25 years.
Currently, Glenn is living in the D.C. area.
