BUIES CREEK, N.C. (February 15, 2020) – Howard University softball team fell in a close bout against St. Francis (Pa.), 5-6, on Day Two of the Campbell Invitational.
Second-year slugger
Camille Navarro (Los Angeles) scored a career-high three times while racking up three stolen bases (career-high) in the loss.
HU got on the board first, 1-0, but St. Francis (SFU) tallied runs in the first and second to take a slight edge after two innings, 1-2.
Sophomore
Kalita Dennis (Elk Grove, Calif.) tied the contest with an RBI-single to left center in the third, 2-2, followed by a pair of runs in the fifth, 4-2.
SFU responded with three scores in the bottom half, including a two-run triple from Allyn Bezjak, and regained the lead, 4-5.
Top seven, Howard tied the game again with an RBI-fielder's choice from Dennis, 5-5, but a walk-off RBI-walk with the bases loaded ended HU's comeback bid.
Dennis finished the afternoon with two RBIs while going 1-of-4 at the plate.
SFU's Tayven Rousseau went a perfect 3-of-3 with a pair of runs scored in the win.
Sunday (Feb. 16), Howard ends the weekend against Mount St. Mary's and Campbell. First pitch versus The Mount begins 12:30 p.m., followed by a 3 p.m. start time against the Camels.
