DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. (Feb. 10, 2020) – Despite a first-half 10-point lead and double figure performances from Charles "CJ" Williams (Richmond, Va.) and Wayne Bristol, Jr. (Upper Marlboro, Md.), the Howard University men's basketball team could retain its stronghold to stave off an 87-68 loss to Bethune-Cookman.
Nate Garvey once again struck first for the visiting Bison sinking a two-point basket within the first seconds of the contest. He quickly added another three points to the mix to round out the first minute of play.
Howard maintained its lead throughout most of the first half until the 10:20 mark when Bethune-Cookman rallied to tie the contest 21-21. The host Wildcats continued their push over the next eight minutes of play on 17-9 run for a 38-30 lead at halftime.Â
Bethune-Cookman continued to strike in throughout the second half of play to secure an 87-68 win.Â
Williams led all scores with 20 points followed by 14 points from Bristol. Zion Cousins (Upper Marlboro, Md.) pulled down four rebounds, as Phillip Jones (Atlanta, Ga.) circulated five assists and tallied three steals.Â
Men's basketball returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 22 to face North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, N.C. at 4 p.m.
