GREENSBORO, N.C. -- In a game full of emotions, the North Carolina A&T University Aggies was able to escape in the final seconds with a 70-67 victory over the Howard University Bison, Saturday afternoon in the Corbett Sports Center.
In the first half, North Carolina A&T jumped out to a 10-3 advantage, slowly building a 28-14 lead with 8:12 left in the first half.
Howard swung the momentum, recording a 19-4 run to end the half and take a 35-32 lead into intermission.
Zion Cousin paced the Bison recording 10 points and three rebounds, Wayne Bristol Jr. (8) and
Charles Williams (7) helped Howard keep pace with the Aggies.
Williams became the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference All-Time scoring leader at the 16:38 mark in the first half.
The Bison held the Aggies to 38 percent (12-of-31) from the floor in the first half and recorded a 23-13 rebound advantage.
The Aggies went on an 11-2 run to take a 43-38 lead with 16:38 remaining in regulation.
North Carolina A&T extended the lead to six when Howard began their run and regained the advantage on a Bristol Jr. connection from beyond the arc to take a 47-45 lead with 12:04 remaining.
The lead changed seven times when the Aggies knocked down a shot from the top of the key to take a 67-65 lead.
Aggies closed the final seconds on a 4-1 run.
Howard and North Carolina A&T combined for 51 fouls and 51 turnovers that prevented both teams from getting into a rhythm. The Bison saw four players foul out, which included two starters (Williams, Cousins) during Howard's final push.
Bristol Jr. recorded 18 points in the second half, he ended the contest with a game-high 26 points and six rebounds, four Bison scored in double-figures Cousins(12), Garvey (11) and Williams (10).
Howard outshot N.C. A&T 47.9 percent (23-of-48) - 38.3 percent (23-of-60).
On the boards HU outrebounded the Aggies 41-38, the Bison recorded a 31-20 advantage on the defensive board. Â
