BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (September 29, 2019) – After a scoreless first 45 minutes of play, the Howard University women's soccer team scored four times, 4-0, in the second period to roll past Southern in Birmingham, Ala. at Sicard Hollow Park.
 
With the win, HU improved to 5-2 (2-0 SWAC) while extending its conference winning streak to 10, dating back to September 2018.
 
"[It] was another great result [today]," said Howard women's soccer head coach 
Brent Leiba. "The team played well, especially in the second half."
 
Moments after intermission, sophomore 
Kendall Macauly (Toronto, Canada) found third-year forward 
Bayley Carmichael (Houston) at the 47-minute mark and gave the Bison a 1-0 lead.
 
Nearly three minutes later, sophomore 
Thalia Boucher (Toronto, Canada) doubled HU's advantage, thanks to an assist from fellow classmate 
Arianna Morgan (Oklahoma City, Okla.), 2-0.
 
At the 79-minute mark, Morgan delivered the third goal off an assist from second-year forward 
Kenya Saunders (Brampton, Canada) and pushed the lead to three, 3-0.
 
Boucher sealed the deal with her second goal on a penalty kick roughly five minutes later, 4-0.
"I'm very proud of our overall effort and play this weekend," Leiba continued. "[It's] a great way to start off conference play."
 
Howard returns to Birmingham for a pair of conference matches against Texas Southern (Oct. 4) and Prairie View A&M (Oct. 6). Friday's showdown against the Tigers starts 8:30 p.m. (ET)/7:30 p.m. (CT) and Sunday's clash versus the Panthers begins at noon (ET)/ 11 a.m. (CT).
