Camille Navarro. Navarro contributed a two-RBI double in the sixth inning to give Howard a 9-8 lead before the Colonials countered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Howard softball head coach
Tori Tyson said, "On paper, this was not supposed to be a great match up as GW is a great program. But we competed. I was proud of our fight. You can't close out games you aren't in so I'm glad we played good enough softball to compete."
The first four batters in the Bison lineup (
Kamryn Tillman,
Ayana Sallee, Dennis, Navarro) combined to go 7-for-13 with eight RBIs and five runs scored in Game 1.
Game 2, resulted in a larger deficit for Howard, as they fell 9-1 in the five-inning affair. The Bison trailed 3-1 halfway through the fourth inning before the Colonials scored six unanswered runs in the final two innings.
The Bison will travel to New Jersey to play a doubleheader at Rutgers University on Tuesday, March 12. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
