Howard Lacrosse Falls in Conference Opener Against Jacksonville

Dolphins down Bison in home opener

WASHINGTON (March 24, 2019) – Howard University women's lacrosse team fell in their home opener versus reigning Atlantic Sun Champions Jacksonville (JU), 24-3, inside Greene Stadium. The contest was also a league opener for both squads.

JU (6-2, 1-0 ASUN) attacked early and often, jumping out to a double-digit advantage nearly 10 minutes into the contest.

Second-year midfielder Jillian Jones (Fresno, Calif.) got Howard on the board before intermission, scoring twice in the final two minutes, 17-2.

After halftime, Jacksonville slowed down the pace, but executed to extend their lead.

Jones led the way with three draw controls and two goals.

HU recorded five ground balls, led by freshman Sydney Saunders (Baltimore) with two scoop ups.

Defensively, newcomer Andrea Fievre (Snellville, Ga.) had a career-high 10 saves in the loss.

For JU, 14 Dolphins scored in the contest. McKenna Rushford and Emma Wisdom each tallied four goals in the victory.

Howard (0-5, 0-1 ASUN) continues league play with a pair of matches next weekend. Friday (March 29), HU travels to Conway, S.C. where the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers await. Match time is set for 1 p.m.
