Howard Lacrosse Drops Tough Bout at Delaware State

Lady Hornets pull away late

DOVER, Del. (March 22, 2019) – Howard University women's lacrosse dropped a tough bout at Delaware State (DSU), 14-11, inside Alumni Stadium.
 
Both squads found their rhythm offensively, scoring 25 goals combined.
 
DSU scored the match's opening goal, but HU answered with three consecutive goals to take the lead, 3-1.
 
Delaware State fought back and went on a 4-0 run, 5-3, but sophomore Tiffany Hunt (Bridgewater, N.J.) tied the contest with a pair of goals before intermission, 5-5.
 
Hunt recorded all four of her goals at the break.
 
After halftime, second-year midfielder Jillian Jones (Fresno, Calif.) put the Bison ahead, 6-5, but DSU reclaimed the upper hand with two goals, 7-6.
 
With 20 minutes remaining, sophomore Lailah Robey (Chesapeake Bay, Md.) scored twice and gave HU the lead back, 8-7, but Delaware State responded again with four straight goals, 11-8.
 
Down, but not out, Howard made one final effort and tied the match, 11-11, but the Lady Hornets followed up with three late goals in the contest, 14-11.
 
Robey had a team-high four goals, along with two ground balls and an assist. Jones finished with three goals, two ground balls and a draw control.
 
Defensively, newcomer Andrea Fievre (Snellville, Ga.) had a match-best eight saves in the loss.
 
For DSU (1-4), they grabbed their first win of the season. Olivia Summerville and Tamrin Swann each had three goals in the victory.
 
Sunday (March 24), Howard (0-4) faces reigning Atlantic Sun Champions Jacksonville at Greene Stadium. The action starts at noon.
