NOTRE DAME, IN -- The Howard University Bison men's basketball team could not overcome a slow start as the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish cruised to a 79-50 victory, Tuesday night in the Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Center.
The Bison falls to 0-3 to start the season, Notre Dame improves to 2-1.
The Fighting Irish started the contest on a 7-0 run when Howard's Wayne Bristol Jr. (Upper Marlboro, MD) connected from beyond the arc and
Michael Barber (Jackson, MS) lay-up cut the early run, 7-5.
The run was short-lived for the Bison. Notre Dame extended their lead by controlling the inside, pounding the paint for a 26-4 advantage. ND also controlled the glass in the first-half out rebounding HU 27-14 (10-3 Offensive Rebounds). Notre Dame took a 41-21 lead, into intermission.
In the second-half the Fighting Irish continued to extend the lead, shooting 55 percent from the floor eventually putting the game out of reach, capping the night with a final score of 79-50.
Howard's Wayne Jr. recorded a season-high 14 points, pacing the Bison off the bench.
Andre Toure' (Paris, France) and
Zion Cousins (Upper Marlboro, MD) brought down a team-high five rebounds. Notre Dame held C.J. Williams (Richmond, VA) to seven points, his lowest output of the season.
The Bison shot 31 percent (19-of-61) from the floor to the Fighting Irish's 32-of-63 shooting from the floor (50 percent).
