Men's Soccer Upsets Georgia State in Final Minute

Franchino Chambers Scores Winning Goal

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Howard University men's soccer team scored two goals with less than five minutes to go to steal the victory from the grasp of Georgia State University Panthers Saturday, afternoon at Greene Stadium on the historic campus of Howard University.

The Bison improved to 4-8-1 overall, 1-1-0 in Sunbelt Conference play, while the Panthers fall to 7-3-3, 0-2-0.

Georgia State's George Proctor scratched first taking advantage of a yellow card assessed to Howard's goalkeeper in the penalty box to give the Panthers the lead, 1-0.

The match was evenly played, with the Panthers controlling the first half, while the Bison controlled the second half. Both squads shot 11 shots equally. HU held the slim margin with shots on goal (8) to Georgia Southern (7), both institutions recorded six saves.

Howard's Chris McGahn tied the game at the 84-minute mark off a Vincent Turk assist in the box.

The Bison attacked in the final minute, breaking through on a Franchino Chambers put back that rebounded off the goalkeeper to win the game.

Andres Gomez led the Bison attacked with six shots (4 on goal).

Howard will be back in action Saturday, October 26 to celebrate ten seniors versus Georgia Southern.
