Mi-ah Watkins (Bronx, N.Y.) and second-year guard
RJ Cole (Union, N.J.) were named Howard University Bison of the Month, sponsored by Kimpton Carlyle Hotel Dupont Circle and Kimpton Glover Park Hotel, for their tremendous performances in December. The announcement came Tuesday evening.
Track & Field - Mi-ah Watkins - Senior - Bronx, N.Y.
On Dec. 1, Watkins helped the Bison women win the Eastern Shore Cappy Invitational. In that event, she set a new school record in the women's weight throw (48'8''), breaking the previous record set back in 2016 (45'57'').
Men's Basketball - RJ Cole - Sophomore - Union, N.J.
On Dec. 11, Cole was awarded his second Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week. In the game against Fordham (Dec. 16), Cole became the fastest Bison in program history to score 1,000 points (44 games), surpassing the record (55 games) held by James Daniel III. On Dec. 22, Cole finished with 29 points, six rebounds, and six assists against rival Hampton. A week later (Dec. 29), Cole scored 28 points against crosstown foe Georgetown.
HONORABLE MENTIONS:
Jermaine Byrd (Men's Track & Field): Byrd qualified for the 2019 MEAC Indoor Championships after finishing first in the men's 60-meter hurdles.
Sarah Edmond (Women's Basketball): Edmond finished with 19 points against Richmond (Dec. 8) and 16 points at ACC foe North Carolina (Dec. 28).
KaSandra Kaplan (Women's Swimming & Diving): Kaplan topped the school's 200 Breast with a 2:23.65 mark, shattering the previous record by nearly a minute.
William Speakman Smith II (Men's Swimming & Diving): Smith broke a 20-year record held in the men's 200-yard Breaststroke (2:07.08).
