BROOKLYN, N.Y. (September 16, 2018) – Howard University men's soccer team found themselves in a familiar spot where they trailed at intermission, 1-0, but tied the contest moments after the break. Despite fighting back, a pair of late goals by St. Francis-Brooklyn would defeat Coach
Phillip Gyau and the Bison, 3-1, at Brooklyn Bridge Park.
With the setback, HU fell to 1-3-1 while the Terriers improved to 3-5 on the season.
Both squads took three corner kicks apiece while committing a combine 32 fouls.
St. Francis held an 1-0 advantage at halftime, thanks to Marco Torriani taking a free kick from 20 yards out.
At the 62-minute mark, Howard tied the contest with a goal from junior
Andres Gomez (Silver Spring, Md.), assisted by
Lloyd Pierre (Trinidad & Tobago), 1-0.
Roughly six minutes later, St. Francis reclaimed the upper hand with a score by Ali Tounkara, 2-1.
With time dwindling, the Terriers' Matteo Caribotti added an insurance goal late to seal the victory, 3-1.
Howard took seven shots in the contest with senior
Victor Guirma (New Paltz, N.Y.) and junior
Franchino Chambers (Atlanta) each taking two apiece.
Junior
Carlos Caro (Silver Spring, Md.) had a match-high four saves in the loss.
On Sept. 19, Howard concludes its road swing at UMBC. Match time is set for 7 p.m. in Baltimore.
