EMMITSBURG, Md. (September 12, 2018) – After giving up an early score, Coach
Phillip Gyau and the Howard University men's soccer team fought back and forced a tie at Mount St. Mary's, 1-1.
With the result, HU moved to 1-2-1 on the season while The Mount (0-3-2) continues its search for win No. 1.
Both squads took 10 shots apiece, including four on goal. Howard was the aggressors throughout the evening, taking six corner kicks, including five after intermission.
Senior
Victor Guirma (New Paltz, N.Y.) registered his third goal of the season at the 62-minute mark, thanks to an assist from junior
Andres Gomez (Silver Springs, Md.).
At the nine-minute mark, Mount St. Mary's Gavin Shirley got a ball through HU's goalkeeper and gave The Mount an early advantage, 1-0.
After allowing an early goal, junior
Carlos Caro (Silver Spring, Md.) settled in and shutdown The Mount. The Maryland native registered three saves in the tie.
On Sept. 16, Howard continues its three-match road swing in Brooklyn, N.Y. where the St. Francis Terriers await. Sunday's match starts 1 p.m.
