PHILADELPHIA (August 28, 2018) – Coach
Phillip Gyau and the Howard University Men's Soccer team suffered their first setback of the season with a 2-1 decision in favor of LaSalle.
With the loss, HU drops to .500 (1-1) on the young season while the Explorers (1-0) grabbed their first win of the year.
In a contest where both teams combined for only 12 shots, Howard capitalized on one of their three attempts, thanks to senior
Victor Guirma (New Paltz, N.Y.).
After a scoreless first half, LaSalle's Daniel Begovic put the Explorers ahead moments in the second period with a rebound shot from Hayden Criollo.
At the 60-minute mark, Jesper Leander added to the Explorers' advantage with an open shot to the lower right corner, 2-0.
Down, but not out, Howard would slice the margin in half after Guirma beat his defender and shot in the low right corner, 2-1.
Goalkeeper
Carlos Caro (Silver Spring, Md.) registered three saves in the loss.
On Sept. 5, Howard concludes its brief two-match road swing in nearby Annapolis where they will face Navy. Game-time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
