WASHINGTON (July 26, 2018) --- The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its All-Academic honors yesterday naming five student-athletes from the Howard University tennis team.
"I must say how proud I am of these young men and women for their academic accomplishments this year," said head tennis coach
Larry Strickland. "I know first-hand that being a student-athlete is balancing the roles of full-time student and full-time athlete. They all worked very hard for their distinguished awards."
The following Howard University players were recognized for 2017-18:
Sajela Harlow (Women's) - 4.0 gpa
Kindha Nasef (Women's) - 3.73 gpa
Aria Ragas (Women's - 4.0 gpa
Sagar Raju (Men's) - 3.67 gpa
Karim Shokeir (Men's) - 3.66 gpa
To earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1) be a varsity letter winner, 2) have a GPA of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3) have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
Four teams and 23 tennis student-athletes in total were named from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). Between the ITA's five divisions (Div. I, Div. II, Div. III, NAIA and JUCO), a total of 735 teams and 4,328 student-athletes were honored.
