MEET PREVIEW
Both Bison qualified for the NCAA East Prelims by finishing among the top 48 in their respective events.
Onuoha eclipsed a 58.37 mark in the women's 400-meter hurdles at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Greensboro, N.C. With that time, she topped all hurdlers while placing top 20 in the region.
"Uchechi [Onuoha] got a little taste of success last year," said Howard University Director for Track and Field
David Oliver. "She was a little invigorated with the coaching change and very receptive. She follows directions and wants to see how far she can go."
For Cleggett, the senior jumper left her mark at the historic Penn Relays by winning the event's College Women's Long Jump title (20'3"); thus, becoming the first Howard female student-athlete to win an individual event at the Penn Relays since 1985. As a result, the New Orleans native had one of the top 30 performances on the East Coast.
"Cleggett spent a lot of time focusing on mastering her techniques," Director Oliver stated. "She really focused on track and field after coming from a volleyball background. She's a very athletic individual, but you must be a master at your technique if you want to go any further. I strongly believe she has done that."
