DETROIT (April 8, 2018) – Detroit Mercy (UDM) used a big second half to down the Howard University Women's Lacrosse team, 23-10, in nonconference action.
UDM (6-6) outscored HU (1-7), 11-2, after intermission.
Senior
Natia Warren led the Bison attack with a match-high six goals on nine shots. Newcomers
Lailah Robey and
Jillian Jones registered a pair of goals apiece in a losing effort.
Detroit Mercy manufactured eight unanswered goals until Warren ended HU's scoring drought at the 11:53 mark, 20-9.
The New Jersey product added another goal with under five remaining, but the Titans would keep Howard at bay.
Defensively, senior
Amerra Sheckles recorded a match-best 10 saves in the loss.
UDM pounced on the Bison early, scoring the first six goals, 6-0.
Midway through the first half, HU responded with a pair of goals from Warren and Robey, 6-2.
With less than two minutes left, the Titans' Kaitlyn Wandelt gave Detroit Mercy a six-goal advantage, 12-6, but Jones and Warren closed the gap with two goals before halftime, 12-8.
Detroit Mercy had 10 Titans produce a goal, led by Wandelt with a team-high five.
Howard continues its road stretch in Florida with a pair of Atlantic Sun matchups.
On April 13, HU squares off against Jacksonville. Match time is slated for 4 p.m.
Two days later (April 15), the Bison meet Stetson in Deland, Fla. The action begins at noon.
