WASHINGTON (April 14, 2018) – Howard University Softball team were defeated twice versus Norfolk State (NSU) at Nationals Youth Academy. NSU edged out HU in game one, 2-0, and then the Bison fell 18-1 in the nightcap.
In game one, senior
Brooklyn Emory and freshman
Breanna Robinson were the lone Bison to record a hit as NSU's Hunter Halford tossed a complete-game shutout.
Halford also helped her cause at the plate, homering twice in the first and sixth innings.
Newcomer
Desiree Renteria gave HU a chance inside the circle, tossing 7.0 innings while allowing only five hits in a losing effort.
In the nightcap, Howard was limited to only three hits. Robinson and sophomores
Noel Merritt and
Kamryn Tillman registered a hit in the loss.
Top two, the Spartans exploded for a nine-run inning, capped off by a three-run blast from NSU's Tuli Iosefa, 9-0.
In the bottom half, freshman
Alyssa Lavine was hit by pitch with bases loaded to score Emory, 9-1.
Next frame, Norfolk State's momentum continued with a six-run inning, followed by three more in the fifth, 18-1.
HU concludes the weekend series Sunday (April 15). First-pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
