WASHINGTON (April 13, 2018) – Under the tutelage of second year head coach Mike London, the Howard University football program announces the 2018 slate, featuring five home games and one Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) opponent. Howard football will open the season in Ohio on Saturday, Sept. 1 against the Ohio University Bobcats, followed by FBS foe Kent State on Saturday, Sept. 8. The Bison host the Savannah State Tigers for its home-opener on Saturday, Sept. 15 at Greene Stadium. The Saturday matchup is "Community Day and Faculty & Staff Appreciation Day."
"We are excited about the opportunities we have to play at home in Greene Stadium. We have a high-caliber roster with returning players and the addition of new players that are coming in from a large recruiting class. We are ready to face any challenges because we know that each game is an opportunity for improvement. We've improved since last season and now we want more. All of our guys are ready to get going," London said.
Hosted by the Indiana Black Expo, the mighty blue and white will return to the Midwest for the 35th Circle City Classic against Bethune-Cookman University (B-CU) at Lucas Oil Stadium.The Indianapolis matchup marks 20 years since the Bison and Wildcats last met in a sponsored classic. During the 1998 contest, HU defeated B-CU 32-25. Tickets for the Saturday, Sept. 22 game are available through Ticketmaster and directly through Howard Athletics.
"As we commemorate the 125th anniversary of Howard's football program, we will celebrate the history of the teams and their contributions over the years while providing our fans with a fun and invigorating season of college football," stated London.
Following the Circle City Classic and a week five bye, Howard hits Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play.
