PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (April 10, 2018) – Howard University Softball team dropped two against the Drexel Dragons. HU fell in game one, 9-1, and came up short in the nightcap, 6-5.
In game two, the Bison manufactured five runs on 11 hits. Sophomore
Kamryn Tillman led the way, going 3-of-4 with a double and run scored. Junior
Alannah Baiyina and redshirt freshman
Zaria Hall each registered two hits in a losing effort.
Howard jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after Hall stole home, but the Dragons responded with a three-run inning in the bottom one, 3-2.
Top two, HU reclaimed the lead with two scores, 4-3.
Baiyina delivered a RBI-single to centerfield and extended the Bison's advantage midway through the fourth, 5-3, but Drexel rallied with a three-run inning to down Howard, 6-5.
In game one, HU produced eight hits; however, were only to get one across as they left eight on base.
Baiyina, Tillman, and reigning Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Co-Rookie of the Week
Trinity Gibbs each collected two hits in the loss.
After a two-run blast from Drexel's Kristi DiMeo, 2-0, Howard sliced the deficit in half with a RBI-double from Gibbs, 2-1.
Bottom three, Drexel regained the upper hand with a three-run inning, 4-1.
Drexel's Linda Rush drilled a three-run shot and pushed the Dragons' advantage to six, 7-1, after four.
Bottom six, Drexel enforced the eight-run mercy rule with a pair of runs, 9-1.
HU returns to D.C. for a three-game series against Norfolk State (April 14-15).
Saturday's twinbill starts at 1 p.m. while Sunday's seven-inning contest begins at noon.
