WASHINGTON (March 9, 2018) – Howard University Softball team dropped its openers at the Lobo Classic, hosted by New Mexico.
HU fell to St. Mary's in five, 11-1, then lost the nightcap against Sacramento State, 9-1.
Howard collected five hits in game one, led by freshman
Breanna Robinson going 2-of-3 at the plate.
HU took the early advantage on a throwing error by St. Mary's, 1-0, but the Gails responded with two runs in the second, 2-1.
After scoring four times in the third and fourth, St. Mary's exploded for five runs and enforced the eight-run mercy rule, 11-1.
In the nightcap, Sacramento State held the Bison to only a pair of hits. Sophomore

Trinity Gibbs recorded HU's lone hits.
Howard took the early lead, thanks to a RBI-walk from sophomore
Monica Thompson, 1-0, but Sacramento State answered with three runs in the first and then four in the second, 7-1.
Sacramento State ended the contest in five with two more runs in the bottom half, 9-1.
HU meets Sacramento State and New Mexico Saturday (March 10). Howard faces the Hornets at 12:30 p.m. (E.T.) and the Lobos at 3 p.m. (E.T.).
