WASHINGTON (March 4, 2018) – Howard University Softball team fell twice on the final day of the District Classic, hosted by nearby Georgetown. HU fell in game one to Virginia (UVA), 13-2, then the Bison were defeated by Columbia in the nightcap, 12-1.
In game one, Howard was limited to only two runs on three hits. Freshmen
Zaria Hall,
Desiree Renteria and
Breanna Robinson each registered a hit in the loss.
Going into the third, UVA held a 3-0 advantage until the Bison scored twice and sliced the deficit down to one, 3-2. Bottom three, the Cavaliers exploded for eight runs and took a commanding 11-2 lead after three.
Virginia added two more runs in the fourth and ended the contest in five due to the eight-run mercy rule, 13-2.
In the nightcap, Columbia pounced on the Bison early with seven runs in the first two innings, 7-0.
Bottom two, newcomer
Alyssa Lavine went yard for the third time this season with a solo shot to left center, 7-1.
Columbia ended the contest early, scoring five times in the fifth, 12-1.
On March 9-11, Howard travels to Albuquerque, N.M. for the Lobo Classic, hosted by New Mexico.
