WASHINGTON (February 12, 2018) – For two weeks, Coach
Nicholas Askew and the Howard University Men's & Women's Swimming & Diving teams have prepared themselves for the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) Championships in Athens, Ga. The event will take place February 14-17 at the Gabrielson Natatorium.

MEET PREVIEW
HU (8-4) men finished the regular season on a bitter note, falling to Catholic. In their last meet, several Bison won individually: freshmen
Darrin Asphall (500 & 1000-yard freestyles) and
William Smith (100 & 200-yard breaststrokes); sophomore
Don Brazelton (100-yard backstroke); and junior
Alexander Barnes (100-yard butterfly).
Howard women (5-7) are also looking to bounce back after losing to Catholic. In their last meet, multiple Bison claimed top spots in individual events: juniors
KaSandra Kaplan (200-yard butterfly & 500-yard freestyle) and
Latroya Pina (100 & 200-yard breaststrokes; and freshman
Nina Parker (200-yard individual medley).

LAST MEET
Howard University Women's Swimming & Diving Team dropped its regular season finale at Catholic, 186-89. Kaplan and Pina led the way for HU. Individually, Kaplan won the women's 200 butterfly (2:12.04) and 500 freestyle (5:25.80) while Pina claimed the top spot in 100 (1:10.12) and 200 (2:34.86) yard breaststrokes.
Howard University Men's Swim team fell in its regular season finale at Catholic, 187-107. Asphall and Smith led the Bison in multiple victories. Asphall won the men's 500 (4:47.32) and 1000 (9:51.59) freestyles while Smith earned the top spot in the 100 (1:00.47) and 200 (2:16.54) breaststrokes.
