Howard Women’s Basketball Picks Up 69-64 Overtime Win Against Campbell

BUIES CREEK, N.C. (December 13, 2018) --- Howard women's basketball took a big win on the road today beating Campbell University, 69-64, in overtime. The Bison ended the Camels' seven-game winning streak to improve to 6-3.

Junior Star Fitzgerald-Greer led the Bison with a career-high 18 points. Fitzgerald-Greer also had nine rebounds. Sarah Edmond had 16 points, five rebounds and five assists.

Following a layup by Campbell's Micaila Coleman, Bison junior Sarah Edmond put Howard on the board. The Bison went on a 14-2 run that gave them a sizable, 14-4 lead to end the first quarter.

Tariah Johnson and Ayonna Williams tag-teamed to put the Bison on the board in the second quarter. With less than five minutes left before going into the half, the Bison were up by 14 points. The strong start in the first quarter proved too much for the Camels to overcome in the second. Howard concluded the first half, 31-23.

Campbell chipped away at Howard's large gap in the third quarter. The Camels came within two, 44-42, before beginning the fourth quarter. Howard kept their feet on the gas most of the fourth as a jumper by Jayla Thornton concluded an 8-0 run for the Bison. The Camels answered with a 10-2 run of their own. As regulation came to a close, Campbell freshman Shy Tuelle sent the game into overtime with a 3-pointer.

In overtime the Bison outscored the Camels, 10-5, to win the game. This is Howard's second overtime win against Campbell. Howard now leads the series 2-1.

The Bison will travel to Florida International University to compete against the Panthers on December 15 at 2:00 p.m. For more information, visit the Howard Athletics website at www.HUBison.com.
