HACKENSACK, N.J. (November 25, 2018) --- Howard University women's basketball team improved their record to 3-2 today in a 77-58 win over Fairleigh Dickinson University.
A layup by
Star Fitzgerald-Greer put the Bison on the board first. After two very early lead changes, Howard took control of the first quarter and dominated the second quarter. A 14-4 run in the second quarter put Howard close to a 20-point advantage. The Bison went into halftime with a 39-22 lead.
In the second half the Bison hit the ground running.
Krislyn Marsh and
Ayonna Williams led the way in the third quarter to put the Bison up by as many as 18 early in the third. The score was 47-29 with 4 minutes left in the quarter. The Knights made shots but not enough to close the gap.
Curstyn Moore,
Jayla Thornton and
Sarah Edmond contributions helped the Bison close the quarter with a 19 point lead.
There was little turnaround room for the Knights (2-3) in the fourth quarter. The Bison found a rhythm and were in sync for the rest of the game. Turnovers did not slow them down as they ended the game to take their third win over Fairleigh Dickinson, 77-58.
Once again three Bison scored in double figures.
Jayla Thornton led the team with 16 points. She also had four rebounds, playing 34 minutes.
Sarah Edmond had 15 points and three rebounds. She was 6 of 7 from the free throw line.
Krislyn Marsh posted 14 points and six rebounds. Marsh was 2-3 at the free throw line. FDU Senior Peniel M'Bikata led FDU with 19 points.
Howard shot 65 percent from the foul line (17-26) and 45 percent from the field (27-59). Howard had 36 points in the paint and 25 fast break points, compared to FDU's 16 and eight respectively.
The Bison return home to host the George Mason Patriots on Nov. 28 at 7 p.m. in Burr Gym.
