Alcorn State is No Match for Howard Women’s Soccer in 5-0 Road Win

Lorman, Miss. (October 8, 2018) --- Howard University (HU) women's soccer finished the weekend on the road in Mississippi with a 5-0 victory over Alcorn State University (ASU). The Bison earned its fourth consecutive shutout.

The Bison (6-6-1 overall and 4-1-1 SWAC) were on the board in the first four minutes of the game after an assist from Kendall Macauly put freshman Jordan Taylor in position to take a shot from the right edge of the box and score. Howard would repeat the duo magic less than 10 minutes later. Assisted by Hollie Cartwright, Makela Davidson made the second goal of the first half to move the Bison to 2-0.

Howard was quick and efficient throughout the game. In the second half, Thalia Boucher was instrumental on the assist as Jordan Taylor gave the Bison their third point at the 52 minute mark. The remaining two goals would come from players who assisted earlier in the game. Hollie Cartwright scored off of a deflection at the 70 minute mark. She was assisted by Jordan Taylor. A fast break goal through the middle came in the final minutes of the game as Thalia Boucher was on the assist to Kendall Macauly. The Lady Braves (0-10, 0-5 SWAC) could not close on opportunities to score.

Offensively, HU outshot ASU, 26-8 and had more corner kicks, 9-1. Defensively, Alcorn had nine saves to Howard's three. Both of the Bison goalkeepers saw playing time. Alayah Hightower played just under 77 minutes. She had one save and allowed zero goals. Bison goalkeeper Mackenzie Diotte played 13 minutes and also allowed zero goals. She had two saves.

Other contributors in the game were Marley Christian who had one shot and one shot on goal. Victoria Thornton added three shots and one shot on goal. Kenya Saunders and Pricela Januario both had two shots and one shot on goal.
