Howard Women’s Soccer Triumphant in Weekend Road Sweep

Birmingham, Ala. (October 14, 2018) --- Howard University women's soccer came away with a perfect road weekend with wins over Alabama A&M University (A&M) and Alabama State University (ASU). The Bison downed A&M, 2-0, on Friday. On Sunday they defeated ASU, 1-0. Both games were played in Sicard Hollow Athletic Complex. Howard has kept their opponents scoreless in the last six games. HU is currently on top in conference standings.

Howard vs. Alabama A&M
The Bison were able to post goals in both halves of Friday's game against Alabama A&M (4-9-1, 4-3-0 SWAC). Makela Davidson opened the board at the 21 minute after an assist by Aleeya Sawyer set Davidson up for the opportunity to land a goal. In the second half, Thalia Boucher was on the assist as Jordan Taylor netted the goal at the 65 minute mark.

Howard outshot A&M 10-7. Howard also had the only corner kicks in the game with four. Defensively, Howard had five saves to A&M's two.

Howard vs. Alabama State
The game against Alabama State (4-9, 4-3 SWAC) was particularly significant since Alabama State was predicted to finish first in the Southwestern Atlantic Conference (SWAC) preseason honors. Howard was predicted to finish third.

Freshman Jordan Taylor scored the only goal in Sunday's game. A foul by the Hornets set the Bison up for a successful penalty kick from outside the 18-yard box into the net's upper corner. On defense this season, goalkeeper Alayah Hightower has had eight games with no goals allowed. She currently leads the conference in saves and goals against average.

The Bison outshot ASU, 15-9 and had more corner kicks, 6-2. Defensively, ASU had 3 more saves than Howard.

The Bison have only two regular season games remaining before competing in the SWAC Championships. Next weekend they are back on the road to face Jackson State University and Southern University.
