HU Women’s Basketball Juniors Sarah Edmond and Ayonna Williams Named to All-MEAC Teams

Women’s Basketball Team Predicted to Finish Fourth in the MEAC

NORFOLK, Va., (Oct. 25, 2018) – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) announced their Preseason Honors today. Howard University women's basketball was selected to finish fourth in the conference. Junior Sarah Edmond was selected to the All-MEAC second team. Junior Ayonna Williams was selected to the All-MEAC third team.

"This is great recognition for Ayonna and Sarah, and the program as a whole.  It has been a building process since they came in as freshmen.  I am very proud of them both. They have put themselves in great positions to be recognized," stated head coach Ty Grace.  "We have a lot of work ahead of us and they are a big part of the success of our team. Everyone has been filling important roles and we can't wait to see it translate in games.  I'm looking forward to the start of the season."

Edmond, a guard from Freeport, NY averages 34.1 minutes per game. During the 2017-2018 season she had 388 points, 104 assists, 31 steals and 89 rebounds.

Williams, a DC-native from Ballou High School, averages 28.7 minutes per game. In the previous season she made 291 points, 109 assists, 56 steals, and 144 rebounds.

Last season, the Bison were projected to finish fifth in the preseason. This year brings recognition of improvement. There were no players from Howard named on last year's preseason or postseason All-MEAC team. This is the first team that Grace has recruited every individual on the team. Howard ended the 2017-18 year with a record of 12-18 overall and 8-8 in MEAC play.

All awards are voted on by the conference's head coaches and sports information directors.

Bethune-Cookman senior guard Angel Golden was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women's Basketball Preseason Player of the Year. North Carolina A&T State was selected as the preseason favorite to win the MEAC this coming season. Defending regular-season co-champion Bethune-Cookman was picked to finish second, while Norfolk State was picked to finish third.

Rounding out the rest of the preseason poll are Maryland Eastern Shore, Morgan State, North Carolina Central, Florida A&M, Coppin State, Delaware State, South Carolina State and Savannah State.
