WASHINGTON (October 20, 2018) – Coach
Nicholas Askew and the Howard University Swimming & Diving team grabbed its first home victory of the season after defeating Chowan, 161-97, inside Burr Gym Pool.
With the win, HU improves to 4-1 on the season.
Senior
KaSandra Kaplan (Detroit) and newcomers
Madison Freeland (Glenside, Pa.) and
Myka Thomas (Philadelphia, Pa.) led the charge for Howard.
Kaplan secured a pair of wins in the women's 200 Free (1:57.68) and 100 Fly (59.83) while Freeman conquered the 200-yard Fly (2:17.65) and 500-yard Free (5:23.14).
Thomas was victorious in the women's 100-yard backstroke (1:02.74) and 100-yard freestyle (56.72).
Other notable Bison winning in individual competition included senior
Latroya Pina (200 IM; 2:20.71), junior LeAnne McMaster (50 Free; 26.11), freshmen
India Jackson (100 Breastroke; 1:08.70) and
Simone Outlaw (200 Backstroke; 2:20.24).
Howard also won two relay events: women's 200-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle.

After a week away from the pool, coach Askew and the Bison travel to Emmitsburg, Md. for a three-team meet between Howard, Monmouth and Mount St. Mary's. First race is slated for 1 p.m.
