WASHINGTON (October 20, 2018) – On a night where the Howard University men's soccer program recognized four Bison for their hard work and dedication, the reigning Sun Belt Conference (SBC) Champs Coastal Carolina (CCU) spoiled the evening with a 2-1 decision in favor of the Chanticleers.
Before the match, seniors
Joel Cunningham (Spanish Town, Jamaica);
Victor Guirma (New Paltz, N.Y.);
Joe Hawes (Princeton, N.J.); and
Lloyd Pierre (Trinidad & Tobago) were honored with posters for their services to HU athletics.
After the ceremony, both squads were scoreless entering halftime.
Midway through the second period, CCU's Yazeed Matthews put the Chanticleers ahead, thanks to an assist from Tyrone Mondi, 1-0.
Just over three minutes later, junior
Andres Gomez (Silver Spring, Md.) tied the match, 1-1.
With under 10 minutes left, Matthews delivered the go-ahead goal and gave the Chanticleers a 2-1 edge.
Defensively, third-year goalkeeper
Carlos Caro (Silver Spring, Md.) had a match-best seven stops in the loss.
Howard wraps up the regular season with a pair of road matches, beginning Wednesday (Oct. 24) at St. Bonaventure. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
