WASHINGTON (Sept. 30, 2018) --- Howard University volleyball (9-9 overall, 2-0 MEAC) defeated the Coppin State Eagles (5-15 overall, 1-1 MEAC) in four sets on Sunday afternoon.
In the first set the Bison were .400 on the attack. Howard went up 6-1 early before the Eagles responded shortly after, tying the set at 9-9 and again at 15-15. The set remained close with back and forth lead changes. Howard pulled off the set win, 25-21.
The Bison got off to a shaky start in set two, allowing Coppin to lead 15-9. The Bison were able to turn the game around with a tied score at 17-17.

Kira Porter were instrumental in the scoring surge with their nine kills. The Bison closed the set with a repeated 25-21 win.
The Eagles came into set three determined to keep the game going. The set was close until Coppin broke away from Howard after the 10 point mark. The Eagles led 13-10 before Howard caught back up to tie the set. Altogether, there were a total of 12 ties. Once again it was a back and forth contest between the two teams. The Eagles gained momentum after an 8-3 run that ended 25-20 in their favor.
Set four was all Howard. The Bison dominated the set, holding the Eagles to -.087 on the attack. Howard closed the set, 25-8 to win the game, 3-1.
Courtney Dalton led the team with 14 kills and two blocks.
Kira Porter tallied 10 kills, three blocks, and an ace. Freshman
Kailyn Williams posted 10 kills, nine digs, two blocks and an ace.
Marcelle Butler totaled seven kills, two digs and an assist.
Tamia Dockery had 39 assists, nine digs and six kills.
Abby Morrow contributed eight digs.
Fola Wilson had three assists.
Jurnee Farrell had an ace.
The Bison play their next three games away. They return to Burr on October 21 to face Bethune-Cookman University at 1 p.m.
