PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (September 29, 2017) – Howard Volleyball dropped its conference opener at Maryland Eastern Shore in a five-set thriller (27-29, 23-25, 25-13, 25-15, 11-15).
With the loss, HU saw its win streak against Eastern Shore end at eight.
Senior
Khaila Donaldson and junior
Tamia Dockery each registered a double-double. Donaldson had a match-high 19 kills and 13 digs while Dockery recorded 38 assists and 16 digs in the loss.
After dropping two tight sets, HU rallied in the third to hit a match-best .286.
Fourth set, the Bison's momentum continued and forced a deciding fifth set, 25-15.
In set five, Howard called an early timeout after consecutive attacking errors, 0-3. HU fought back and tied the set at 10. Eastern Shore closed out the match scoring three kills and two HU attacking errors to win the thriller, 11-15.
Jessica Young fell a dig shy of a double-double, registering 15 kills and nine digs. Defensively,
Fola Wilson provided 20 digs while
Kira Porter added eight total blocks (one solo) in a losing effort.
For Eastern Shore, Iva Vujosevic and Lucia Babic each produced a double-double in the victory.
Sunday, the Bison host Delaware State in their conference home opener. Match time is set for 3 p.m. inside Burr Gymnasium.
