WASHINGTON (September 16, 2017) – Howard Volleyball team was unable to come away with a victory as they dropped both matches at the D.C. Classic.
HU fell to the Princeton Tigers in four sets (16-25, 25-22, 15-25, 17-25), followed by a three-set loss at American (24-26, 22-25, 18-25).
Despite the outcomes, junior outside hitter
Courtney Dalton was selected to the D.C. Classic All-Tournament Team. In three matches, the New Jersey native racked up 33 kills, nine blocks, and two digs.
In the match against Princeton,
Khaila Donaldson, MEAC Preseason Player of the Year, registered a double-double with 16 digs and 15 kills.
Tamia Dockery fell short of a double-double, posting 32 assists and nine digs.
Other notable Bison included Dalton and
Jessica Young combining for 24 kills in the loss.
For Princeton, Jessie Harris produced a double-double with 42 assists and 13 digs. Devon Peterkin also contributed with a double-double, producing 11 kills and 10 digs in the victory.
In the nightcap, Young led the way with a team-high 16 kills while producing a .265 hitting percentage. Donaldson added 10 kills while Dockery manufactured 34 assists and nine digs in a losing effort.
For American, Aleksandra Kazala had a match-best 22 kills and nine digs. Shannon Webb provided 10 kills in the win.
Tuesday, the Bison travel north to Baltimore where UMBC awaits. Match time is 7 p.m., followed by a home exhibition versus Zhejiang China Volleyball Club. First serve also at 7 p.m.
