WASHINGTON (September 15, 2017) – Howard Volleyball opened the D.C. Classic tournament with a 3-1 loss against Iowa (18-25, 25-20, 22-25, 20-25) inside Burr Gymnasium.
Kira Porter and
Khaila Donaldson each finished with a match-best 13 kills while
Courtney Dalton added 11 kills in the loss.
After dropping set one, 18-25, the Bison produced a .320 hitting percentage in set two and tied the contest, 25-20.
Despite hitting .216 in set three, the Hawkeyes were more efficient as they registered a .270 mark. As a result, HU found themselves in a 2-1 deficit.
Both squads hit under .200 in set four; however, the Bison committed 13 errors along with way. Iowa held off HU's late rally to win the match, 20-25.
Setter
Tamia Dockery fell one dig shy of a double-double, 32 assists and nine digs.
For Iowa, Taylor Louis, Jess Janota, and Claire Sheehan each had 10 kills. Gabrielle Orr registered a match-high 39 assists while Annika Olsen provided 10 digs in the victory.
Saturday, HU competes on American's campus where they face Princeton and the host team Eagles. Howard faces the Tigers at noon, followed by a date with AU at 7 p.m.
