London, Bison Take On No. 6 Richmond

Contrast styles meet in Virginia

WASHINGTON (September 15, 2017) – After facing back-to-back FBS opponents, Coach Mike London and the Howard Football team take on another challenging foe when they travel to No. 6 Richmond. Saturday's kickoff starts 2 p.m. at Robins Stadium.

Fans will have the opportunity to follow all the action via Live Stats and SpiderTV.

HU came up short against FBS opponent Kent State (KSU), 38-31, at Dix Stadium Saturday. Despite the loss, HU utilized a balance attack with 452 total offense.
 
Senior running back Anthony Philyaw, MEAC Offensive Player of the Year, led the Bison attack with 147 rushing yards and a touchdown.
 
Kyle Anthony grabbed five catches for 100 yards while Jequez Ezzard had three receptions for 120 yards in a losing effort.
 
MATCHUP PREVIEW
 
Richmond (1-1) comes home after picking up a 20-17 victory against No. 25 Colgate. Kyle Lauletta completed 25-of-38 passes for 306 yards and a TD on the road. Offensively, Richmond has the No. 1 passing attack in the nation, averaging 426 yards-per-game. Lauletta leads the Spiders, completing over 30 passes-per-game.
 
Coach London returns to his alma mater with one of the nation's top running games. HU's rushing attack is best in the conference, averaging 267.5 yards-per-game, which ranks No. 11 in the country. Freshman quarterback Caylin Newton leads the MEAC in yards-per-carry (6.4) and rushing touchdowns (4). Philyaw ranks No. 1 in the conference with 238 rushing yards.

Howard hosts Bethune-Cookman in their home opener. Saturday's kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. at Greene Stadium.
