Box Score Radford, Va. – Under the lights for its season opener, the Howard women's soccer team fell on the road at Radford, 3-0.
Collectively, the Bison attempted 13 shots, putting eight on goal, but were unable to capitalize.
Kela Gray led the attack with a team-high six shots, followed by Priscilla Ayala and Whitney White with two shots apiece in the losing effort.
With less than 20 minutes remaining, the Highlanders manufactured two goals within a three-minute span to pull away from the Bison.
Defensively, net-minder Gabrielle Emilien played the first 45 minutes of action where she recorded a team-best three saves. Alayah Hightower came in relief and swapped two shots.
Within the first three minutes, Radford's Rad Everett delivered a header and put the Highlanders ahead 1-0. HU battled but were unable to tie the contest before intermission.
Radford (1-0) registered 24 shots overall and put eight on target. Nelia Perez led the Highlanders with a goal and an assist in the victory.
HU concludes its brief two-match road trip in Farmville, Va. where the Longwood Lancers await. Match-time is set for 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 20.
