WASHINGTON, D.C. – It's about that time for the 2017 women's soccer season to start as the Bison head to Radford on Friday, Aug. 18 to play under the lights at 7 p.m.
Howard is going into its fourth season in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) and has twice claimed the league trophy. In the conference's preseason vote, the Bison were predicted to take home the regular season crown.
The Bison once again had numerous players receive preseason SWAC honors. Kendall Hamilton was named Defensive Player of the Year while Gabrielle Emilien was tabbed as Goalkeeper of the Year. The duo was joined by Kela Gray, Noelle McCullom and Marley Christian on the All-SWAC First Team. Hollie Cartwright and Whitney White garnered second team honors.
Howard finished the 2016 season with a 13-4-3 overall record and spotless 9-0-1 mark in SWAC play. The Bison hosted Radford last year but the game was ruled "no contest" due to inclement weather.
The squad hopes to add another SWAC title to the mantel under the guidance of head coach Brent Leiba, who enters his ninth season at the helm.
