RADFORD, Va. - Howard women's lacrosse senior
Asyiah Frank scored a goal while adding a career-high six ground balls, a team-high four draw controls and two caused turnovers, but a big first half led Radford to a nonconference victory over the Bison Saturday at Cupp Stadium, 20-3.
Sophomore
Natalie Payne made her first career start in goal for Howard (0-2), totaling 10 saves, including seven in the first half, as the Bison were outshot, 27-2, had 14 turnovers and 19 fouls.
After the Highlanders' Juliette Ruland scored the first goal just 1:07 into the game, Frank scored her first of the season and the eighth of her career just 44 seconds later to tie the game at 1-1. However, Ruland would score twice more as Radford scored the next 13 unanswered goals to take a 14-1 halftime lead.
Emma Rogers also scored three goals in the half for the Highlanders (4-4) while Lindsey Carroll scored once and assisted on seven of Radford's 13 other goals. She added a goal and three assists in the second half, finished the game with 12 points.
Junior
Natia Warren and sophomore
Tierra Norris both scored a goal in the second half while Payne added three more saves.
With two caused turnovers, Frank moved into a tie for fifth place on the school's career list with 32, tying her with Alanah Webb (2006-08).
Howard will make its home debut next Sunday, March 26 when the Bison welcome Delaware State for an Atlantic Sun Conference contest at Greene Stadium beginning at noon.
