WASHINGTON (November 14, 2017) – Coach
Ty Grace and the Howard University Women's Basketball team suffered a 93-41 loss at crosstown foe Georgetown (GU) Tuesday night.
HU was unable to find their rhythm, shooting only 21-percent (13-of-61) from the floor, including 13-percent (2-of-16) from beyond the arc.
Despite the team's tough shooting night, freshman
Curstyn Moore led the way with 10 points and six boards. The New York native went a perfect 3-for-3 from the field and 4-of-4 at the charity stripe.
GU took an early 25-7 lead after one and kept their momentum going into the second period.
Freshman
Jayla Thornton connected on a trey ball and trimmed the deficit under 20 with 7:20 remaining before intermission, 29-12. Next, Georgetown closed out the half on a 26-3 run and took a commanding 55-15 advantage into the break.
After intermission, Howard outscored GU inside the paint, 10-6, but the Hoyas had six second chance and increased their lead after three, 73-28.
HU continued to battle, but the Bison were unable to slow down Georgetown in the final period.
For Georgetown, Dionna White had a game-high 27 points, including a perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line. Cynthia Petke and Tatiana Thompson each finished with 14 points in the victory.
Howard's road trip continues against the Vermont Catamounts. Friday's tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
