STATESBORO, Ga. (October 28, 2017) – Howard University Men's Soccer team rallied from a 3-0 deficit to pull within one, but came up short as the Georgia Southern (GSU) Eagles held off the Bison, 4-2.
GSU took the early lead after a score by Blake Wilson, assisted by Javier Carbonell, 1-0.
At the 19-minute mark, Wilson delivered another goal and put the Eagles ahead 2-0.
Nearly four minutes later, Carbonell scored GSU's third goal of the half. Georgia Southern took a commanding 3-0 lead into intermission.
More than 10 minutes after halftime, junior
Joel Cunningham put HU on the board, 3-1.
At the 66-minute mark, sophomore
Andres Gomez pulled the Bison within one after scoring a goal off the keeper's hands to far post, 3-2.
With less than 10 minutes remaining, GSU's Nick Wells scored on a penalty kick and put the contest out of reach, 4-2.
HU wraps up the regular season with a pair of conference matches.
Wednesday, the Bison host Coastal Carolina at 7 p.m. Sunday, Howard ends the regular season with Hartwick on Senior Day. Match time is set for 2 p.m.
Both contests will take place at Greene Stadium.
