Women's Soccer Bested By Princeton, 4-0

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Howard women's soccer team was shutout by Princeton, 4-0, on Sunday afternoon at Greene Stadium. With the loss, the Bison are 2-2-1, while the Tigers improve to 4-0-0.

Sophomore net-minder Mackenzie Diotte spent 70 minutes in goal for the Bison and made seven saves. Princeton outshot Howard, 15-4, and tallied three corner kicks.

Senior Sandra Bond took a pair of shots for the Bison off of set pieces but both just missed high. Sophomore Anna Mitchell and junior Kela Gray had one shot apiece.

The Tigers took a 1-0 lead on a penalty kick by Tyler Lussi after Diotte drew a yellow card in the box. The Bison stepped up on defense to keep Princeton from adding to its lead heading into halftime.

Just five minutes into the second half, the Tigers added a tally thanks to a header by Tomi Kennedy off Samantha McDonough's corner kick.

Princeton scored again off a rebound in the box, which Vanessa Gregiore caught and put back. After that, junior goalkeeper Gabrielle Emilien replaced Diotte in the 71st minute.

Two minutes later, Lussi caught the cross from Gregiore and scored from the top of the box for the final 4-0 result.

Howard heads to Robert Morris on Thursday, Sept. 15. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
