Howard Rallies Late To Beat Alabama A&M

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – A late goal by sophomore Makela Davdison pushed the Howard women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Alabama A&M on Friday night at the Sicard Hollow Athletic Complex.

The Bison improved to 5-3-2 on the season and 2-0-1 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). The Lady Bulldogs dropped to 1-10 overall and 0-2 in league play.

Junior goalkeeper Gabrielle Emilien got her first start of the 2016 season. She tallied six saves on her way to a win.

The Lady Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead at the 4:05 mark when Fatmata Mansaray chipped the ball in over Emilien.

Two minutes later, senior Carmen Suarez slipped the ball to sophomore Anna Mitchell, who drilled a shot from outside the box to tie the game at 1-1.

The two teams attempted to break the tie but headed into the locker room still knotted up.

To start the second half, freshman Hollie Cartwright got a shot off but had it blocked before senior Sandra Bond caught her rebound but sent the ball wide left.

Just when it seemed like things might be heading into extra time, junior Kela Gray made A&M's goalie Alexandra Desgagne commit before she slid the ball to Davidson, who scored the game-winner from the right side.

A&M had a slight advantage in shots, 15-14. Cartwright, Davidson and Mitchell notched three shots apiece for the Bison.

Howard will concluded the weekend against Alabama State on Sunday, Oct. 2 at 1 p.m. ET.
