BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Junior Kela Gray came through with a late goal to help the Howard women's soccer team defeat Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) rival Alabama State, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon at Sicard Hollow Athletic Complex.
It was the third time in the last four games that Gray has scored for the Bison.
Junior Gabrielle Emilien earned her second straight start at goalkeeper and notched six saves. ASU's Gianna Guyot also had six saves on the day.
The Bison had a slim shot advantage over the Lady Hornets, 13-11.

After a scoreless first half, ASU struck first in the 58th minute when Aaliyah Lewis shot into the right corner of the net for a 1-0 lead.
Four minutes later, sophomore Makela Davidson got the goalie out of position before she tapped the ball over to classmate Jasmin Miller, who put the equalizer into the left corner. It was Miller's first goal of the season.
Gray scored the game-winner in the 75th minute after she sprinted down the field for a breakaway goal.
