BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, N.Y. – The Howard men's soccer team couldn't overcome an early deficit in its 3-0 loss to St. Francis (N.Y.) on Saturday afternoon at Brooklyn Bridge Park.
The Bison fell to 1-7-2 on the season, while the Terriers improved to 4-3-2. Howard was outshot by a 14-8 margin.
Redshirt senior Kenneth Hersey played all 90 minutes in goal and made five saves. Freshman Quentin Valiente attempted a team-high three shots for the Bison and put two on goal.
The Terriers scored just 6:42 into the match thanks to Salvatore Barone. Yussuf Olajide extended the home team's lead to 2-0 after a one-on-one situation with Hersey.
Sophomore Joel Pagan and freshman Brandon Hood each put shots on goal but could not slip past the keeper for a tally.
St. Francis (N.Y.) picked up its insurance goal in the second half after a strike from 10 yards out by Amir Islami.
Howard is headed to the University of Alabama at Birmingham on Tuesday, Sept. 27 for a 7 p.m. match.
