BALTIMORE, Md. – The Howard men's soccer team fell to UMBC, 3-0, on Tuesday night at the Retriever Soccer Park. The Bison dropped to 1-6-2 on the season as the Retriever improved to 3-1-3.
Redshirt senior Kenneth Hersey made his ninth start and tallied four saves. The Bison had three shots on goal thanks to sophomore Gavin Boyer and junior Austin Williams.
Senior Xavier Rajpaul and freshman Brandon Hood took Howard's two shots in the first half, both of which were sent high.
UMBC's Tre Pulliam and Colin Weyant gave their team a 2-0 lead in the first 45 minutes of the match. The Retrievers quickly added to their advantage, with Pulliam scoring in the 48th minute to put Howard down 3-0.
Boyer had the chance to get on the board for the Bison, but a save from Billy Heavner thwarted the attempt. Williams also tried to get around the net-minder but another save protected the shutout.
Howard took nine shots, seven of which were in the second half. Hood led the offensive effort with four shots during the match.
The Bison stay on the road to face St. Francis (N.Y.) on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 1 p.m.
