Howard Ties LIU Brooklyn 1-1 In Double Overtime

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Howard men's soccer team tied LIU Brooklyn, 1-1, after double overtime on Sunday afternoon at Greene Stadium. The Bison are 1-4-1 on the season, while the Blackbirds move to 2-2-1.

Redshirt senior goalkeeper Kenneth Hersey played all 110 minutes and had six saves for Howard. LIU's net-minder Michael Ramsey had two saves on the day.

The Blackbirds outshot the Bison, 11-7, with six of those shot in the second half of regulation.

Sophomore Joel Pagan scored his first career goal in the 23rd minute to give Howard a 1-0 lead. Pagan settled the ball at the top of the box before he sent a scorcher into the top left corner over LIU's diving goalie.

The Blackbirds got a shot off with one minute left in the first half but Hersey came up with the save.

Howard spent the majority of the second half on the defensive end. The team had a few fast break opportunities but each was thwarted by an off sides flag.

Senior Xavier Rajpaul tried to bend the ball in from far out but it was saved by Ramsey with 17 minutes to go.

LIU tallied the equalizer in the 81st minute after Rasmus Hansen sent the ball in off a corner kick and Marius Koss found the back of the net to tie the match at 1-1.

The Bison took three corner kicks and had two shots blocked in the final 1:30 of regulation but could not put the go-ahead goal on the board.

Junior Austin Williams had the only shot of the first overtime period, which sailed high.

Howard did not attempt a shot in last 10 minutes of the game.

The Bison are headed to Central Connecticut on Wednesday, Sept. 14. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
