EMMITSBURG, Md. – In its first road game of the season, the Howard women's soccer team ended in a 1-1 tie with Mount St. Mary's after double overtime on Friday afternoon.
The Bison outshot the Mount, 18-13, over 110 minutes of action. Sophomore goalkeeper Mackenzie Diotte made three saves in the net for Bison, while Maddy Bunnell tallied five saves for the home team.
Bianca Gillman put the Mount on the board in the 52nd minute after capitalizing on the squad's second penalty kick for a 1-0 lead.
In the 63rd minute, senior Sandra Bond tied the game at 1-1 on a penalty kick goal for her first tally of the season.
Howard outshot the Mount by a margin of 7-2 in the last 25 minutes of regulation but couldn't pull ahead.
In the first overtime period, the Bison took a pair of corner kicks but weren't able to get much going. Neither team attempted a shot in the first 10 minutes of extra time.
The Bison and the Mount combined for seven shots in the final 10 minutes, three of which came from junior Kela Gray.
Howard comes back to Washington, D.C. to host Longwood on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Greene Stadium.
