LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Howard men's soccer team opened the 2016 season on the road with a 2-0 loss to Liberty on Friday night.
The Bison still outshot the Flames, 12-10, and limited them to a pair of shots in the second half.
HU net-minder Kenneth Hersey and LU goalie James Knoebel each made three saves. Both teams tallied six corner kicks apiece. Kyle Celestine and Gavin Boyer posted three shots each.
Celestine took the first shot for the Bison but missed wide. Soon after, Tresor Mbuyu scored for the Flames off a header to take a 1-0 lead.
Liberty added another goal in the 57th minute after a give and go helped Martin Agredo score and increase the edge to 2-0.
The Bison took a total of five shots in the last six minutes but couldn't find the back of the net.
Howard continues its road trip with a visit to Pittsburgh on Sunday at 7 p.m.
