Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Heslip Leads Women To Second Straight Win

Baltimore, MD- Te'Shya Heslip finished with a team-high 19 points to lead five players in double figures, including the game-winning basket to lead Howard to a 71-69 come-from-behind win over Coppin State at the Physical Education Complex.

The Lady Bison (5-18, 3-7 in the MEAC) won for the second time a row for the first this season. Heslip, who was coming off her first career triple double in a win over Hampton on Monday, rallied her team from an 11-point deficit in the third period as she and Jasmine Hill combined for 16 of their team's 22 points.  The run cut the deficit to 55-53 headed into the fourth quarter.

The two teams went toe-to-toe as Erin Blaine, Hill and Heslip made sure that the Eagles (7-15, 4-6 in the MEAC) would not sweep them.

Hill nailed a big three pointer that tied the game at 69  with 40 seconds remaining.  That is when the junior guard came up with the deciding basket.  Howard spread the floor and allowed Heslip to execute the play.

Coppin State had a chance to tie or win bt the Bison defense forced two bad shots and Blaine corralled the rebound as the clock ran out and Howard escaped with the win.
Heslip added 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals to her game totals while Hill (16, 12 coming in the second half), Imani Bailey and Sydni Johnson with 11 each and Blaine (10 points 9 rebounds) contributed to the balanced attach for the Bison.

Coppin State was led by Omaah Tayong (19 points, 11 rebounds), Janelle Lane (13 points, 13 rebounds) Amber Griffin (11 points) paced them.
