Imani Bailey scored a team-high points and
Te'Shya Heslip added but Ciani Byrom proved to be too much as she poued in a career-high 27 points as University of Maryland Eastern Shore cruised to a 79-57 win over Howard in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference women's game at Burr Gymnasium.
The Lady Bison (hung with the Lady Hawks through the first half and only trailed by 6 at 38-32 despite 15 points by Byrom. Heslip and Bailey combined for 20 points but Heslip got into early foul trouble and impacted on the productivity of the Howard offense.
Byrom led a third quarter charge that helped her team outscore the hosts 19-9 and take a commanding 57-41 lead at the end of three. From the UMES (8-16, 6-6 in the MEAC) put the game in cruise control.
The Lady Bison aided their cause missing 26 of their second half shots for 25 percent from the floor. The Lady Hawks meanwhile connected on 55 percent (29 of 53) for the game.
Bailey finished with 16,
Erin Blaine with 14 an 9 rebounds, Heslip with 12 and
Jasmine Hill, who was also in foul trouble, with 11.
UMES got 14 points from Moengaroa Subrizky, 10 from Taylor Thompson off the bench and 11 rebounds from Taryana Kelly.
